"Marriage visa" is a common name for the type of visa issued to foreigners who are married to Vietnamese citizens so that they can reside in Vietnam. Legally, this is a type of family visit visa with the symbol TT (family visit visa), issued on the basis of a marriage relationship.
To apply for this visa, foreigners and Vietnamese must meet some basic conditions:
Legally registered marriage: Must have a Marriage Registration Certificate issued by a competent authority of Vietnam or a Marriage Certificate issued by a foreign country that has been consularly legalized and registered as a marriage in Vietnam.
Valid passport: Foreigners' passports must be valid for at least 6 months.
Not subject to entry ban: Foreigners are not subject to entry ban or exit suspension under the provisions of Vietnamese law.
The file usually includes documents from both parties: the foreigner and the Vietnamese sponsor.
Original passport with valid term.
Visa application form (form NA5) certified by local police at temporary residence.
Passport photo (size 2x3 cm or 3.5x4.5 cm).
Temporary residence certificate certified by local police.
Application for sponsorship of foreign relatives (form NA3 or NA9 depending on the case).
Marriage certificate (notarized copy). If the marriage certificate is issued by a foreign country, it must be consularized and notarized translated.
Copy of the guarantor's Citizen Identification Card/ID Card.
Copy of the sponsor's household registration book (notarized).
To strengthen your profile, you can supplement other documents to prove that the marriage relationship is real and not fake, for example:
Wedding photos, photos taken together on special occasions.
Proof of communication history, letters, messages, etc.
Visa duration: TT visa has a maximum duration of 12 months .
Visa extension: After expiration, you can apply for a visa extension or convert to longer-term residence status.
Temporary residence card: If you want to stay long-term, foreigners can apply for a temporary residence card with a validity of up to 3 years (may be longer depending on each case). The temporary residence card allows foreigners to stay long-term and enter and exit Vietnam multiple times without a visa.
Where to submit application: Application for marriage visa/temporary residence card is usually submitted at the Immigration Department or Immigration Management Office of the provincial or centrally-run city police where the Vietnamese person has permanent or temporary residence.
